It is a certainly a departure from their previous albums, particularly in that the heavier guitar found in some of Muse's finest songs, such as Citizen Erased, Plug in Baby and Uno is almost entirely absent from this new album. I have long been debating with myself over whether this album is good or not. Im seeing them live at Reading festival in the UK in August, and frankly i can't wait, im very excited as they are one of the very best live bands around.ĭue for release globally July 3rd, but already leaked as early as June 7th, this is the fourth, anxiously anticipated album from brit rock legends, Muse. If you listen to it, listen to it more than once as you will notice it get better with every listen. If your not a fan, but are interested you can listen to the album at you need to register to listen. A brillianty visual track, a sort of sci-fi spaghetti western, it has the best guitar part of the entire album, and is an amazing fast paced track.Īn outstanding album, well worth owning, and essential for all Muse fans. The album finishes on a wonderful high with Knights of Cydonia. After that is Voodoo, once again with some wonderful guitar in it with a slightly latin feel at the beginning that changes into a slow paced track before further orphing into a briliant guitar track. Its got a great guitar opening, and the chorus is brilliant, it also has a slightly spanish feel to it in parts. This is soon followed by City of Delusion one of my favourtie tracks on the new album. Exo-Politics the next track, another slightly political one, has a great drum beat in it, but is great. Then comes Assassin, one of the heaviest songs on the album, quite political in tone. Up next is Invincible, which has a military kind of drum beat in the early part of it and is a very good song. Then its Map of the Problematique, a slightly electro, quick fast paced tune, followed by Soldier's Poem, a slow paced sad lyriced track which is makes you feel suprisingly upbeat. This album goes from the very political, dark, raging Take a Bow, to the slightly Keane piano like but wonderful Starlight, which is, dare is say it?, a sort of love song, next comes the dancy Prince-esque Supermassive Black Hole. This is a brilliant, diverse, beautiful album, this is art, and is Muse at thier best. Muse don't even bother to try and make tracks rooted in reality, they've gone mad with this album, well more than usual and just make it all sci-fi and mad. Whilst it may not have as many heavy tracks as Absolution, it doesn't need them frankly, this album is outstanding. Matt Bellamy is a song writing god frankly. It it also the most politically toned album they've ever made. All the songs on this abum are varied, unique, and very Muse. This is Muse at their very best, them at their pinnacle of achievement. But this isn't that, this is something different. I was expecting something similar to Absolution, which was an evolution of Origin of Symmetry. Well its different than i was expecting, i was very surprised when i first listened to it the first time. A world tour followed the release of the album that included dates in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and most of Europe and Asia.EDIT: okay the album has arrived and so i can give a full review. Five singles were released in the UK, of which three were released in the US. The album is also a BPI double platinum album, and was nominated for a Mercury Prize. The album sold 115,144 copies in its first week in the UK, which was more than the first week sales of Muse's previous album, Absolution. The album has political and sci-fi undertones, with the lyrics covering topics as varied as political corruption, alien invasion, New World Order conspiracies as well as more conventional love songs. The album was a change in style from Muse's previous albums, and the band cited influences that included Queen, Millionaire, Sly and the Family Stone, Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand and music from southern Italy. Recording was split between New York and France, and it was the first time Muse had taken a more active role in the album's production. Black Holes and Revelations is the fourth studio album by English alternative rock band Muse, released on 3 July 2006.
